Several interesting events are scheduled for the week of July 10-16 at the Medical Center.

 

Wednesday, July 12

Physiologist to simulate integrative physiology’s past, future

Dr. Robert Hester, professor of physiology and biophysics and professor of orthopaedic surgery, will give the Physiology Seminar Series presentation, “Mathematical Simulation of Integrative Physiology: History and the Future,” from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Thursday, July 13

CTO to cover security, technology during ADDS talk

Kevin Yearick, chief technology officer, will give the Academic Development and Discover Seminar (ADDS), "Technology and Security: From Artificial Intelligence to Zeus," from noon-12:50 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, in room R153 (lower amphitheatre).

Yearick will discuss the latest trends in the industry and UMMC’s security technology transformation. The seminar is presented by the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs’ Office of Academic Development. For more information, email bgward@umc.edu.

Northwestern radiologist to give HCC perspective

Dr. Robert Lewandowski, associate professor of radiology, medicine (hematology and oncology) and surgery at Northwestern Medical Group, will give the Radiology Grand Rounds presentation, “TheraSphere in Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC): A Referring Physician’s Perspective,” from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

CI director to host quarterly staff meeting

Dr. John Ruckdeschel, UMMC Cancer Institute director, will host his second Cancer Institute Quarterly Staff Meeting for Cancer Institute members and UMMC faculty and staff involved in cancer research or cancer care at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing and again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, in room MK1109 (Cancer Institute Conference Room) at the Jackson Medical Mall Thad Cochran Center.

Cancer Institute members and cancer researchers at the University of Mississippi in Oxford can participate in the 1:30 p.m. meeting via a teleconference link in room TCRC 1018 on the Ole Miss campus. For more information, email Cynthia Wall at cwall@umc.edu.

Chancellor, vice chancellor to speak at faculty meeting

Dr. Jeffrey Vitter, University of Mississippi chancellor, and Dr. LouAnn Woodward, vice chancellor for health affairs, are scheduled to speak at the fall faculty meeting at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 31, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).

Vitter and Woodward will provide an update on the university and the Medical Center for the next fiscal year. The agenda also will include a recognition of faculty with 20 years of service.

Full-time faculty members who have 20 years of continuous full-time faculty service are asked to contact Dorothy Singleton by Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the phone number or address listed below.
