June observances include cancer survivors, men's health
June highlights cancer awareness efforts focused on prevention, early detection and education.
Cancer Survivor Awareness Month
More than 18 million cancer survivors live in the United States today and that number continues to grow. Survivorship includes not only life after treatment but also ongoing physical, emotional and social needs. Awareness recognizes the strength of survivors and the importance of follow-up care, healthy lifestyles and support services throughout survivorship.
Men’s Health Month
Men are more likely than women to be diagnosed with and die from many cancers including lung, colorectal and liver cancer. Routine checkups, recommended screenings and healthy habits such as not using tobacco, staying physically active and maintaining a healthy weight can help reduce cancer risk and support overall health.
