Dr. Devika Das named to UMMC, CCRI roles

Dr. Devika Das is the new director of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at UMMC and associate director of clinical affairs for the Cancer Center and Research Institute. 

A graduate of Grant Medical College in Mumbai, India, Das completed an internal medicine residency and a hematology and oncology fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She also holds a master’s degree in health care quality and safety from UAB, reflecting her commitment to excellence in patient care.  

With a clinical focus is thoracic oncology, Das served as the section chief of hematology and oncology at the Birmingham VA Medical Center and has held key leadership roles within the VA’s regional Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) system and nationally. She has also served as the director for quality improvement in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Florida.   

As a co-investigator on numerous research projects and as associate fellowship director, she has significantly influenced the field and shaped future medical professionals. With her impressive background, Das is set to lead the division toward excellence and innovation.
