Biography: Gustavo Luzardo, M.D., Director of the Endovascular Neurosurgery Fellowship Program and Director of UMMC's Neurosurgery Residency Training Program, is board-certified and dual-trained in open cerebrovascular surgery and endovascular surgery. He is a native of Maracaibo, Venezuela and received his medical degree from the Universidad Del Zulia. Following residency, he went on to complete an endovascular fellowship at the same institution. Dr. Luzardo has extensive expertise in the treatment of cerebrovascular disease, cranial nerve disorders and skull base surgery. He is committed to providing patients with the highest quality of care and our residents with the highest level of training. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys spearfishing, kitesurfing and spending time with his family.

My Approach to Healthcare

As a neurosurgeon specializing in open cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery surgery, my practice is very specialized. I chose the neurosciences because I was very interested in the correlation between anatomy and function, and the science involved. I have a very direct approach to care and welcome direct interaction with potential patients and referring providers. I have structured my practice to ensure I am accessible and there are not layers between my patients and me, for I believe this hands-on approach results in more rapid diagnoses and ultimately better results for my patients.

My second field of expertise are Cranial Base and Cerebral Tumors. I perform open skull base procedures as well as Ensocopic endonasal interventions for minimally invasive skull base resections.
