Physical Therapy

Physical therapy offered through the University of Mississippi Medical Center focuses on the examination, management, and prevention of motion disorders. Therapists examine and provide treatment for patients with health problems and disabilities resulting from birth defect, injury, disease, overuse of muscles or tendons, pain, or loss of a body part.

The UMMC physical therapy care team includes one of the few orthopaedic-certified specialists in the metro area and one of the few geriatric certified specialists in Mississippi. Services are available for inpatient and outpatient programs and often include helping adults with mobility, balance and gait retraining, daily activities, exercise programs and use of orthotics, prosthetics and assistive devices.

Therapists at University Physicians Pavilion also participate in a physical therapy sports residency program, the only one of its kind in the Southeastern United States, to provide leading-edge examination techniques and interventions for orthopaedic and sports-related injuries.
