Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency

Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency

Welcome to the University of Mississippi Preventive Medicine residency program! Our goal is to prepare well trained preventive medicine physicians with the skills and knowledge needed to practice preventive medicine at the individual and population levels. Our program is both innovative and comprehensive focusing on clinic-based preventive medicine including lifestyle counseling, public health practice, and population-based medicine. In addition, through the Master of Science in Clinical Investigation degree, residents will gain the skills needed to perform translational research.

UMMC is the only academic health center in Mississippi. Our program, housed in the Department of Preventive Medicine in the School of Medicine and the John D. Bower School of Population Health, has a wide variety of experiences throughout UMMC and with our affiliated partners, including Mississippi State Health Department, Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center, Mississippi State Medical Association and the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery VA Medical Center. In addition, there are opportunities for electives throughout Mississippi that will meet your professional needs.

Our program is new and we are seeking accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). It is designed, upon approved from the ACGME, to fulfill the requirements for the certifying examination of the American Board of Preventive Medicine.

Thank you for your interest in our program. We have designed our website to give you a comprehensive view of preventive medicine as it is taught and practiced at UMMC. If you have any question about our program, feel free to contact us.
