In particular, he studies how the cortical and subcortical brain structures generate compensatory eye movements to stabilize gaze during active and passive head movements. He has served as a journal article reviewer for several journals, a reviewer for NIH grant funding, and is the member of multiple professional organizations including the Association of Research in Otolaryngology, Society for Neuroscience, and the New York Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Zhou received the Platinum Medallion Award for reaching $5,000,000 in extramural award monies at UMMC. Over his career, his research has advanced understanding in the field resulting 48 papers and 105 presentations as of January 2019.
