Welcome to the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Our dedicated faculty contribute to the mission of the university by educating future scientists and physicians, conducting basic and translational research, and providing academic services to make Mississippi and the world healthier. Our department is a leader with research interests in bacterial pathogenesis, bacterial population genetics, immunology, parasitology, and virology. Our research efforts focus on the ultimate goal of expanding understanding and developing innovative approaches to preventing disease.
Graduate students in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology develop critical thinking, learn innovative research approaches, and progress as leaders and future scientist educators. Students find this to be a great experience that prepares them for their future endeavors. There are currently 12 full-time faculty and 10 doctoral graduate students to which the department is their professional home.
