Dr. Alex Jenkins

After completing residency in 2023, Dr. Alex Jenkins joined Dermatology of East Texas- a physician-owned private practice in Tyler, TX. This past year, after the retirement of the founding dermatologist, Alex, became the sole dermatologist and owner of the practice, working alongside her husband Kyle, who helps manage the business. Time outside of clinic/administrative duties is full of family and is spent with their two daughters Annie (3) and Clara (2mo) as well as extended family in the East Texas area.
I am so grateful for the time spent learning and growing at UMMC. The knowledge and experience I gained allowed for a strong foundation entering into these early practice years. Even more, the co-residents I was lucky to have, created a friendship and support that has carried me through and is something I will always cherish!
Dr. Sarah McClees
After completing residency in 2023, Dr. Sarah McClees returned to her hometown and joined faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Dermatology. For the past two years, Sarah served as Director of Medical Student Education and will assume the role of Assistant Program Director for the dermatology residency this July. Her clinical practice includes general, pediatric, and surgical dermatology. Sarah has cultivated a particular interest in hidradenitis suppurativa and staffs the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Deroofing Clinic at UAB. In her free time, Sarah enjoys cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Birmingham Stallions (professional spring football), and spending time with her cat, Stella.
“I am incredibly grateful for the training I received at UMMC. The program provided a supportive yet challenging environment that prepared me to manage complex cases and deliver high-quality patient care. I am especially thankful for the opportunity to work in the HS resident clinic with Dr. Jackson during my PGY-4 year, which helped shape my professional focus. And not a week goes by without connecting with one of my co-residents. I am glad they are only a text away, and that we still get to catch up at meetings (like the UMMC Annual Dermatology Symposium)!
