About the Program
What the Program Offers
The Physical Therapy program is part of UMMC's School of Health Related Professions. The program offers a doctor of physical therapy degree as well as three residency programs.
Doctoral degree
The entry-level professional program for students seeking their physical therapist degree is 36 months in duration beginning in the summer session each year. One class is admitted each year.
While uncommon, it may take longer than 36 months to complete the curriculum due to the availability of clinical sites. The program has no provisions for part-time students.
Learning activities include lecture, practical laboratory sessions and clinical education experiences. The clinical education experiences require the student to temporarily relocate with at least one experience being at an affiliated organization outside of the state and one being out of the metro Jackson area.
Residencies
The Physical Therapy program offers one-year residencies in neurologic physical therapy, sports physical therapy and pediatric physical therapy for licensed physical therapists. The residencies are accredited through the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTFRE).
