Physiology prof gains fellow status; UMMC residents earn AOA awards

AIMBE inducts physiology professor into College of Fellows

Dr. Robert Hester, professor of physiology and biophysics and interim chair of data science, has been inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.

Comprised of the top two percent of medical and biological engineers, the AIMBE College of Fellows honors society members who have made outstanding contributions to engineering and medicine-related research, practice or education; are pioneers in new and developing fields of technology; or who have advanced traditional areas of biological engineering.

Hester was nominated and elected by his peers for his “significant contributions in renal and cardiovascular research, professional society leadership and physiological modeling environment development.”

AIMBE_logo.pngHe is one of the leading engineers of HUMMOD, considered to be the best, most complete mathematic model of human physiology, and is active in international efforts to advance the use of in silico models to improve medicine and clinical research.

Hester is one of 156 new fellows who were inducted during the AIMBE Annual Meeting at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. on March 25.

 

UMMC residents earn Alpha Omega Alpha awards

The Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society has selected Dr. John M. Bridges, UMMC internal medicine resident, and Dr. Christiano Dos Santos E. Santos, UMMC anesthesiology resident, for the organization’s 2018-19 resident awards.

aoa_logo.pngThe criteria for AOA selection includes scholastic achievement, demonstrated professionalism, leadership capabilities, adherence to ethical standards, fairness in dealing with colleagues, achievement in medicine and/or research, and a record of service to school and community.
