My birthplace is Magdeburg, Germany. Here I finished high school and then enrolled in medical school after completing mandatory military service. I came to the US as an exchange student in ’93 and again in ’94. During that time period I met my wife. We married in March of 1995. Shortly after, I returned to Germany to graduate from Medical School, then returned to the US. After moving to Jackson, MS, I worked as a volunteer in the department of Anesthesia in ’96. I became a research assistant with the department of Neurology in 07/96 through 06/98. I was admitted into residency in 07/98 and completed it in 06/02. Completed a Neurocritical Care fellowship of one-year duration 02/03. Concurrently, I became assistant residency program director. I became an instructor in 07/02 and served as neurology staff since then. I became Assistant and then Associate professor in ’06 and ’10, respectively. I retained a special interest in stroke and was able to establish our six-bed stroke unit in 2008. I am serving as director of the NSICU, vice chairman of the department, residency/fellowship/clerkship director and served as interim chair in 08/09. I am looking forward to many more years of service.
