My name is Jermaine Gray and I am currently the Interim Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology while also enrolled in the Executive Master of Science in Population Health Management. I was born and raised in Natchez, MS. I attended the University of Mississippi where I received a Bachelor’s Degree and attended Medical School at UMMC here is Jackson. I have been faculty at UMMC in the Department of Ob-Gyn for eleven years. Prior to joining the faculty at UMMC, I spent two years post training in a private practice group at one of the local hospitals. Having the desire to teach, I returned to UMC with excitement and quickly excelled in patient care. It wasn't until a few years later that I began to dive into administrative roles, initially as the director of medical student education in the department. After that, I became Division Chief for the division of general Ob-Gyns in the department while also serving as Medical Director for Ob-Gyn Ambulatory Services. Because I was Chief of the department's largest division, I was called upon by the chair to assist with decision making. Soon, this turned into being named the Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs; and now, Interim Chairman of the Department. In the one year that I have been Interim Chair, I have learned many things about the business of medicine and the management of people. I often joke with those who ask by telling them that there are some things I'm glad I know, but there are also things I wish I didn't know. Anyway, I have come to a time in my career where my interests and talents have changed such that I would like delve to other areas that may not only include direct patient care. I am quite excited to explore new learning opportunities and further understand the ever-changing world of medical economics and how the shape of health delivery is affected by these changes.
