I was born and raised in Lowndes County, Mississippi, on the largest crop farm in the county (at that time). An Eagle Scout since the age of 16, I have always enjoyed helping others, and I was inspired to seek out medicine as a profession by tales of my late grandfather, a general surgeon from Champagne, Illinois. After graduating valedictorian from Heritage Academy preparatory school in Columbus (2000), I matriculated to Millsaps College, where I studied Biology, Chemistry, and Classical Studies, earning designation as Phi Beta Kappa and serving as treasurer of the Beta Beta Beta Biological studies honor society, as well as being inducted into the Order of Omega leadership honor society. After graduating summa cum laude from Millsaps (2004) with a BS degree in Biology and dual minors, I hiked a large portion of the Appalachian Trail. On the peak of Mt. Katahdin I made up my mind to apply to medical school, and after a brief stint as a research assistant in Vanderbilt Medical Center's department of pathology, I was accepted to the University of Mississippi School of Medicine.I studied hard, met the love of my life in my medical school class as an M1 and married her as an M4. We both matched at UMMC (2010), as planned, and the rest is (nearly) history, plus two kids, two dogs, and one fish not long after.Following completion of Ophthalmology residency at UMMC (2014), I held a dual appointment as attending in the VAMC eye clinic and the UMMC Department of Ophthalmology. After two years, I left to complete a one year glaucoma fellowship at the Callahan Eye Center in Birmingham, Alabama, through UAB. Upon finishing fellowship (2017), I returned to my true home at UMMC where I have been a full time clinician, surgeon, and teacher since. I enjoy reading, movies, podcasts, cooking, cycling on my Peloton, video games, home improvements, and spending time with my family.
