Josie Bidwell serves as an Associate Professor at The University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Nursing. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2004 and Master of Science in Nursing from the same institution in 2006. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from UMMC SON in 2013.She is currently practicing as a family nurse practitioner with University Nursing Faculty Practice. In January of 2016, Dr. Bidwell was named the Director of Clinical Services for UNACARE Family Health Center. Southern Remedy is the flagship wellness program of Mississippi Public Broadcasting. Dr. Bidwell served as the lead author for both the Southern Remedy Healthy Living adult and children’s physical activity curriculum (Fitness Prescription). She is the host of Southern Remedy Health and Fit. She serves as a Community Health Advocate Master Trainer to provide nutrition, physical activity, and healthy living training to laypersons and health professional students. Recently, Dr. Bidwell, together with Dr. Alan Penman in the school of medicine, received grant funding from The Bower Foundation to establish a healthy cooking teaching kitchen in the midtown community of Jackson. This kitchen is aimed at teaching healthy food selection and preparation for people with high blood pressure and diabetes.
