Dr. Jeffrey Ali graduated in the MD Honors program of the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, then pursued Psychiatry Residency Training followed by a Fellowship in Neuropsychiatry at Beth Israel Medical Center. He has since been on the faculty of UMMC's Psychiatry Department with the predominant role of Clinician-Educator. He has taught at all levels of training provided, becoming one of the primary teachers of psychiatry residents and clinical medical students. He has been director of the department's Community Psychiatry Services, serving as the University's visible representative in MS public psychiatry. He has also participated in research, mostly as a clinical co-investigator or collaborator, or mentoring/supervising psychiatric trainees in scholarly projects. He has published papers, produced abstracts and posters related to these efforts and has received teaching and other awards. He is particularly interested in working to reduce disparities in training and providing services and to stress cultural competence; for example, he has worked on efforts to provide services for gender dysphoria and HIV+/comorbid psychiatric patients who are well represented among community mental health patients. As UMMC's only fellowship-trained neuropsychiatrist, he strives to enhance clinicians' edification with the goal of improving clinical care for all.
