Bachelor of Health Informatics and Information Management Degree Programs
The Health Informatics and Health Information program at UMMC's School of Health Related Professions offers a bachelor of science in health informatics and information management (BS HIIM) degree.
The degree program gives students hands-on, functional skills that can be immediately applied in today’s workforce. Students will work with database management systems, spreadsheets, clinical software, coding guidelines, project management tools, and visualization reporting software.
The program's mission is to educate outstanding professionals who can contribute to high quality health care through development, implementation, and refinement of health information systems.
Students who satisfactorily complete the required coursework will earn a BS HIIM degree from the University of Mississippi. Graduates are eligible to take the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification exam offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
Traditional online
This program is for students with non-health information technology-related degrees or who have completed 60 hours of academic credit. With the exception of professional practice courses, all courses are delivered online.
The Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics and Information Management program is currently in "teach out" with the last class of students admitted for Fall 2025. The bachelor level program will no longer be offered once the currently enrolled students graduate.
Progression online
This program is offered for graduates of a Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) accredited associate’s program at a regionally accredited institution who hold a registered health information technician (RHIT) credential through AHIMA. With the exception of professional practice courses, all courses are delivered online.
The Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics and Information Management program is currently in "teach out" with the last class of students admitted for Fall 2025. The bachelor level program will no longer be offered once the currently enrolled students graduate.
Accreditation
The Health Information Management accreditor of the University of Mississippi Medical Center is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). The College’s accreditation for baccalaureate degree in Health Information Management has been reaffirmed through 2027.
