Biography: Bo Huang, MD, Professor, Director of Cornea Services at UMMC, and cornea consultant to the VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS., is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cornea, external disease and refractive surgery. Dr. Huang received his medical degree from Jiangxi Medical College, China and received a Ph.D in Neuroscience from the University of Georgia, Athens GA. After completing a Neurobiology post-doctorate from the University of California, San Diego, Dr. Huang completed a surgical internship at the University of Texas Houston and completed a Residency in Ophthalmology at the University of South Florida. Dr. Huang received fellowship training in Cornea and Refractive Surgery from Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine in 2002 and began his ophthalmic practice as an Assistant Professor at UMMC in 2003. Dr. Huang achieved tenure status in 2009 and has twice been promoted, becoming Professor in 2015. Dr. Huang is a recipient of numerous grants and awards including a prestigious career development award from Research to Prevent Blindness, Inc. Dr. Huang has been published widely in ophthalmology journals and has been selected as one of the best doctors by “Best Doctors in America”. Outside of his teaching, research, and patient care practice, Dr. Huang enjoys ballroom and Latin dance, competitive chess and international travel with his family.
