Biography

I have joined UMC Department of Medicine as a full time faculty in 2009. I have joined Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in 2010 with continuing my work at UMC and served as the Director of Sleep Disorders Laboratory since then. I am the first Director to have this VA Sleep Lab accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). I have continued to lead the VA Sleep Department to achieve three accreditations over 12 years of my service here.

I have a great interest in teaching and research. I have published many original research articles and several review articles as a primary author and a senior author in peer-reviewed journals. My research on PTSD and sleep apnea was deemed ground breaking in the research field and made to national news in American academy of sleep medicine and newspapers. I have also received a federal grant on my research project on sleep and PTSD in 2014 and Office of Rural Health (ORH) grant in 2020 for three years. I am a co-investigator in an NIH funded grant with UMC at Jackson Heart Health Study.

I have been involved in teaching of medical students, residents and fellows (Pulmonary and Sleep medicine) at VA and enjoyed it very much. I have initiated a tele-medicine based program in 2016 and it has flourished to telemedicine sleep program with 11 clinics serving rural Mississippi. I also have developed inpatient noninvasive ventilation consult service for COPD/heart failure patients and saved repeat hospitalization and reduced mortality by providing CPAP/BiPAP during discharge from VA Sleep Program.
