Biography

Mary E. “Lisa” Morton, PhD, RHIA, is professor and Director of the Health Informatics and Information Management programs at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. In addition to her volunteer service for the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and three of its component state associations, she has presented at the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) Annual Symposium, International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) Working Group on Education Conference, AHIMA National Convention, AHIMA Assembly on Education (AOE) Symposium, and state HIMA conferences. Morton has published on the topic of physician EHR adoption and serves as a reviewer for Perspectives in HIM and JAMIA Open. She has served as a member of AHIMA’s Council on Excellence in Education (CEE) and has chaired its Research & Periodicals Workgroup and the Graduate Resource Alliance (GRA) Workgroup. Lisa was recipient of the Mississippi Health Information Management Association’s (MSHIMA) Educator Award in 2014 and the MSHIMA Research Award in 2010. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Health Information & Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and previously served as secretary and president.
