Biography

I got Medicine degree from the China Medical University in 1997, and obtained MS from the University of Washington in bioinformatics (2001-2003). I completed my PhD study with double majors in the Statistics and Bioinformatics from the North Carolina State University, funded through the Duke University Genomics Fellowship (2003-2007). I joined the University of Mississippi Medical Center since 2012, and I am currently the faculty in the Department of Data Science, School of Population Health. My research focus is to develop methods for genome-wide association and differential expression test, genetic pathway analysis, gene-gene interaction, genetic pleiotropy and longitudinal genetic effect analysis. My studies also aim to discover genetic pathogenesis of human common diseases and detect effects of pathway, genes and variants on obesity, hypertension, diabetes, sleep, cognitive function and memory loss. I am interested in integrating multi-omics data of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics to estimate and predict disease risks. I am PI and investigator of multiple research projects. I am in charge of the course of “Statistical Inference in Genetics” for PhD students and I am also an instructor for “Bioinformatics and Genomics”.
