Neurology

Division of Pediatric Neurology

The Division of Pediatric Neurology is very active in the education of medical students, pediatric residents, child neurology residents, adult neurology residents and clinical neurophysiology fellows.

In addition to our typical lectures and teaching rounds with third- and fourth-year medical students, we have a regular presence in the lectures and Grand Rounds of the Department of Pediatrics and are involved in daily clinical education at Batson Children's Hospital. We have also added a weekly Child Neurology lecture to the adult neurology residency program, aimed at improving basic neurology care across the state as these residents graduate and filter out into Mississippi.

We have expanded our resident and medical student rotations in the clinic and have multiple observers with us in the outpatient setting.

Our registered dietitian travels the state educating dietitians and providers, as well as parents, on the Ketogenic Diet, a new epilepsy management program that we are expanding at UMMC.

We continue to have very successful recruitment both within UMMC and from out of state for our child neurology residency, and our division benefits immensely from their presence.
