Lodging is provided for out-of-town applicants the night prior to the interview at Hyatt Place Jackson/Ridgeland. Any further nights can be booked at interviewee's own expense by contacting the Hyatt Place Jackson/Ridgeland at (601) 898-8816.

How is the weather in Mississippi during interview season?
November is typically cool in the mornings and mild in the afternoons; December is typically cool all day, and January is typically cold all day. A light jacket would be appropriate in December and a heavy jacket in January. Mississippi weather is unpredictable, so make sure to check the weather and bring a small umbrella just in case.

How long is the interview day?
The interview day starts at 7:45 a.m. and lasts until around 2 p.m.

When do I check out of the hotel? Do I have a place to store my luggage?
Your interview will not end prior to check-out time on the day of the interview. Therefore, you will need to check out that morning prior to leaving the hotel. You will need to bring your luggage with you to the interview for it to be stored in the office. Transportation will be provided from the institution to the airport.

Will I need to drive myself to the interview? If so, where should I park?
If you are staying at the Hyatt Place Ridgeland/Jackson, transportation will be provided by the residency program to and from the hospital. If you drive your own vehicle to the interview, park in Garage A. Bring your parking ticket with you for validation at the end of the day. Directions to Garage A: From North State Street, turn onto the UMMC campus at the stoplight (across from Backyard Burger); Garage A is on the left. You can also park in the stadium parking lot which is behind Backyard Burger. In order to get a close spot, you will need to arrive between 7-7:15 a.m.

If you are driving yourself, it is encouraged that you also arrive at this time. We will meet for a short welcome in the pathology chairman’s library on the second floor in surgical pathology.

Should I eat breakfast before arriving?
A light breakfast of coffee and pastries will be provided in the morning in our department.

Will I know with whom I am interviewing? How many interviews will I have?
You will receive your itinerary by email a week in advance and a folder will be given to you beginning of the interview day. This includes the itinerary that includes the names of your interviewers. Each applicant typically has around six 20-minute interviews with departmental faculty.

Do I need to bring a copy of my CV/personal statement?
No. Your interviewers are provided copies of your application prior to your interview, so there is no need for you to bring this information with you to your interview.

Where do I send thank-you notes?
Thank-you notes are not required, but can be sent to the Internal Medicine office and will then be distributed to the faculty. Enclose individual thank-you notes in a larger envelope addressed to Hollie Thomas, Department of Pathology, 2500 N. State St., Jackson, MS 39216.

What else do I need to know?
More information can be found on the other pages of the pathology residency website. For other questions, contact Hollie Thomas.
