The telephone number is (601) 984-2368.
The biochemical genetics section of the laboratory is staffed from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday to answer questions regarding genetic testing. The direct number (601) 984-1901.
The transfusion services (blood bank) section is staffed by 16 medical technologists and clinical laboratory scientists. The section is staffed 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. The direct number is (601) 984-2392.
The routine chemistry section is staffed by medical technologists and clinical laboratory scientists 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. It performs approximately 1.7 million tests per year, including complete and basic metabolic panels, therapeutic drugs, cardiac assays and drugs of abuse. The direct number (601) 984-2368.
The special chemistry section is staffed from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. seven days a week by three medical technologists and clinical laboratory scientists. It performs approximately 400,000 tests per year, including allergy testing, electrophoresis, immunofixation, sweat tests, rejection drug assays and cancer markers. The direct number for the department is (601) 984-2359.
The clinical cytogenetics laboratory studies the chromosome complement, its morphology, and behavior to detect abnormalities that may be associated with disease. Chromosome abnormalities can often provide an explanation for a disorder as well as recurrence risk, prognosis, and information useful for determining the most effective therapies. Classical cytogenetics (karyotype) and molecular cytogenetics (FISH) are the main technologies used in this section.
The clinical hematology section is staffed by 12 medical technologists and medical laboratory scientists 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. It performs approximately 195,000 tests per year, including complete blood counts (CBC) and differentials, body fluid counts and differentials, sickle cell screens, reticulocyte analysis, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and hemoglobin electrophoresis.
The microbiology section is staffed by medical technologists and clinical laboratory scientists 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. It performs more than 120,000 cultures, organism identifications and susceptibility tests per year, including 28,800 blood cultures. In addition to standard bacteriology, the laboratory provides full-service diagnostic testing in mycology, mycobacteriology and parasitology. The direct number is (601) 984-2358.
The point of care section is staffed by four medical technologists responsible for 162 glucose meters, 18 blood gas analyzers, 27 iSTAT's performing Chem 8 panels, BNP, ß-hCG, Troponin I, and blood gases, and a variety of instruments that test for hemoglobin A1C, total hemoglobin, urine pregnancy, urine dipsticks, activated clotting time and co-oximetry. In addition to the instrumentation, manual kit testing is performed for influenza A and B, urine pregnancy, RSV, streptococcus A, and H. pylori biopsy/tissue tests. The direct number is (601) 984-4746.
The serology/molecular section is staffed by medical technologists and clinical laboratory scientists 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. It performs over 72,000 tests per year, including viral cultures, serology tests and molecular tests. Included within the molecular testing are HIV viral loads, HPV, MRSA, GBS, and Clostridium difficile toxin. The direct number is (601) 984-2365.
The toxicology division is the only clinical laboratory in the state that provides comprehensive toxicology testing. It is staffed from 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday with personnel on call after hours and weekends for emergency requests. The division offers a comprehensive test menu, including blood lead, comprehensive drug screens, confirmation of drugs of abuse by GC/MS, ethylene glycol and volatile alcohols (methanol, ethanol, acetone and isopropanol). The direct number is (601) 984-1614.
