Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship

In July 2019, UMMC began offering a new ACGME-accredited adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship program. We currently accept one fellow per academic year for a one-year period of training.

UMMC is the only Level I trauma center and academic institution in the state providing training in adult cardiothoracic anesthesia.

In addition to standard coronary revascularization and valve surgeries, UMMC surgeons are also adept at implantation of ventricular assist devices, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) cannulation and management, heart transplantation, aortic reconstruction, and both pediatric and adult congenital cardiac surgery. Furthermore, we are expanding our structural heart program to include transcatheter aortic valve replacements, watchman device implantations, and MitraClip transcatheter mitral valve repairs.

Our fellowship program will provide a broad array of didactics, multidisciplinary academic conferences, and comprehensive perioperative clinical exposure aimed at fulfilling all ACGME requirements, and successful certification in advanced perioperative TEE by the National Board of Echocardiography (NBE).

Should you match at UMMC Anesthesiology for your fellowship, you will reap the rewards of warm weather, southern hospitality, and a low cost of living all while fostering a solid foundation in the field of cardiothoracic anesthesiology.
