New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Dr. Andrew M. Huettner

Dr. Andrew M. Huettner, recently a lead systems engineer for MRI Safety at GE Healthcare in Waukesha, Wisconsin, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of radiology in the School of Medicine.

Huettner earned his PhD in Magnetic Resonance Biophysics in 2016 at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Healthcare Technologies Management from Marquette University and the Medical College of Wisconsin, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Huettner has extensive industry experience in research and development for magnetic resonance imaging, safety risk management, hazard analysis, and evaluating medical implants for safety in the MRI environment. His various titles have included MRI scientist and image quality systems engineer; senior software risk and reliability engineer for neuromodulation implants; lead service integrator; and functional safety and quality engineer for product design.

The coauthor of a number of scholarly publications and conference abstracts, Huettner serves as an abstract reviewer for the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM). His professional affiliations include the Southern Radiological Conference, RSNA and ISMRM.

Dr. Marcos Lenza

Dr. Marcos Lenza, recently professor and chair of the Lenza Institute of Postgraduate Education in Dentistry in Goiania, Brazil, has joined the Medical Center faculty as professor and chair of orthodontics in the School of Dentistry.

Lenza received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1979 from the Federal University of Goias School of Dentistry in Brazil. He also holds a Master of Science degree in pediatric dentistry and a PhD in oral biology and a certificate in orthodontics from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in Lincoln. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Aarhus School of Dentistry in Aarhus, Denmark.

Lenza has almost four decades of service as a department chair, program chair, faculty member, director, vice chair or assistant dean among various institutions, including the Anapolis University School of Dentistry in Anapolis, Brazil; Federal University of Goias School of Dentistry; and University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry; as well as the Lenza Institute.

He has developed a variety of didactic materials relating to orthodontics, including those covering such areas as biomechanics, diagnosis and treatment planning, facial esthetics, maxillary expansion, and more.

Lenza’s research experience is extensive. He has co-authored around 30 publications in scholarly journals and is the author or co-author of  three book chapters.

At the Federal University of Goias School of Dentistry, he was named Professor of the Year three times. He has received numerous other awards and honors, including those from the House of Representatives of the State of Goias, Brazil; and the Sao Paulo Orthodontic Society.

At the Lenza Institute of Dentistry, he oversaw a program that provides free orthodontic treatment for underprivileged patients and operates a food bank.

Dr. Oscar Venegas

Dr. Oscar Venegas, recently an oral and maxillofacial surgeon at La Serena Hospital in La Serena, Chile, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of oral maxillofacial surgery-pathology in the School of Dentistry.

Venegas, who is originally from Chile, completed his undergraduate studies in 1995 at the University of Chile in Santiago. He received his postgraduate degree in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Puerto Rico in 2004.

Afterward, he worked full-time at La Serena Hospital (in the north of Chile) as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon; there, he was the first and only oral and maxillofacial surgeon on staff performing maxillofacial trauma, oral surgery, aesthetic, orthognathic surgery and implants.

For 11 years, he was also part of the head and neck surgical team at La Serena Hospital honing his teamwork and communication skills. Among his positions at the La Serena Hospital, was deputy director in 2007.

Venegas, who has an interest in the administrative field, earned an MBA in Public Health at the Andres Bello University in Chile in 2013; this included an internship at Harvard University. His last public health post was head of the Outpatient Department at the same hospital.

Venegas is the coauthor of a number of professional publications and his list of professional conference presentations is extensive. He is an affiliate member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and holds membership in several other professional organizations, such as the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the Latin American Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology of Chile.

He is married to recently appointed faculty member Dr. Barbara Olivos, an assistant professor of orthodontics in the School of Dentistry.
