New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Kelly Spell, recently director of health information management and facility officer at Merit Health Madison in Canton, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of health informatics and information management in the School of Health Related Professions.

Spell earned a master’s degree in 2017 from SHRP in health information and informatics management at UMMC, where she worked in various roles for several years until August 2017, including supervisor of hospital coding, EPIC health information management analyst and enterprise informatics analyst.

She is a registered health information administrator, certified coding specialist, and certified associate in healthcare information and management systems.

Her leadership experience covers such areas as business analysis, process improvement, testing, training, multi-tasking, interdepartmental communications and more.

Dr. Christine S. Waldrop

Dr. Christine S. Waldrop, recently an anesthesiologist at North Mississippi Anesthesia Consultants in Tupelo, has joined the Medical Center faculty as assistant professor of anesthesiology in a PRN (as needed) capacity.

Waldrop graduated from the School of Medicine at UMMC in 2004 and did her anesthesiology residency at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

She has also practiced at Jackson Anesthesia Associates in Jackson, Willow Anesthesia in Oxford and Anesthesia Consultants of Oxford.

Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, Waldrop is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Mississippi Society of Anesthesiologists.

She has numerous academic honors and has made a variety of academic presentations.
