New faculty join UMMC academic ranks

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Dr. Jeanne S. Nunez, recently a neonatologist at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics, neonatology.

She has held positions in both university and community hospital settings across the country and has worked for more than 22 years at the Johns Hopkins University, with 17 years at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, which are both located in Baltimore.

Nunez earned her medical degree from Hopital Necker-Enfants Malades, University of Paris, France, in 1985, and did her fellowship in neonatology at the University of Maryland Medical System, as well as a residency in pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of Paris.

Nunez has authored numerous publications, book chapters and review articles, and has given multiple teaching presentations. She has been the lead and principal investigator for several projects on feeding issues and reflux in the recovering premature infant and for quality improvement projects, notably on delayed cord clamping.

These projects were supported by extramural grants and awards resulting in the publication of multiple manuscripts and abstracts as well as a patent application.

 

Dr. Matthew P. Miley

Dr. Matthew P. Miley, an emergency medicine physician recently affiliated with St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of emergency medicine.

Recently, Miley has also worked, part-time, for Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth and Copiah County Medical Center in Hazlehurst.

After earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2003 at Des Moines University in Iowa, the Clinton native completed his residency in emergency medicine at UMMC.

Over the years, he worked at Anderson Regional Medical Center, Rush Foundation Hospital and Riley Memorial Hospital, all in Meridian; River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg; River Oaks Hospital in Flowood; King’s Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven; Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon; and Natchez Community Hospital in Natchez.

Miley is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Emergency Physicians.
