Transplant hepatology fellow joins Medical Center faculty

Dr. Jan Petrasek, recently a transplant hepatology fellow at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine (digestive diseases).

After receiving his M.D. from Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, in 2003, Petrasek had residency and fellowship training in internal medicine, gastroenterology and transplant hepatology at the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine, Prague, from 2003-08. While he had postdoctoral training in liver immunology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester, from 2008-13, he received his Ph.D. in immunology and biochemistry from Charles University in 2010. He had an internal medicine residency, gastroenterology fellowship and postdoctoral training in cell biology, biochemistry and structural biology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, from 2013-19 before completing his transplant hepatology fellowship there in 2020.

The author or coauthor of 34 articles in peer-reviewed professional publications, eight review papers and three book chapters, Petrasek has given 38 conference presentations and nine invited presentations at scientific meetings internationally. An Alpha Omega Alpha inductee and recipient of numerous scholarly awards, he is an active member of the American Society of Transplantation, the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease and the American Gastroenterology Association, among many other national and international organizations. He serves as an editorial board member for Hepatology Communications and is an ad hoc reviewer for four national and internationally known journals.
