DeAsia Scott and Deontay Isaac, like other graduates this spring, celebrated their commencements without large public events.
Long-term patients in the state’s only children’s hospital, DeAsia and Deontay graduated from Franklin High and Choctaw Central High, respectively, by way of the hospital school.
A part of the hospital that keeps students from preschool to senior year on track academically, the hospital school works with the patients’ school districts. Lessons are part of the day for children’s hospital patients, including DeAsia and Deontay, who steadily worked toward graduation despite the physical challenges of using wheelchairs and ventilators.
Both patients finished with flying colors, each having a ceremony at the hospital that was photographed for their high schools’ commencement celebrations. Both were honored during a graduation party in the hospital’s Rainbow Garden.
