Children's fellow, Mayo medicine expert, nursing instructor join UMMC faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Patricia G. Amolenda, M.D.

Dr. Patricia G. Amolenda, recently a fellow at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of anesthesiology.

After receiving her B.S.N. cum laude from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines, in 2007, Amolenda earned her M.D. magna cum laude at the University of Santo Tomas, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Manila, in 2011. She had Anesthesiology residency training at UMMC from 2014-18 before having her fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital from 2018-19.

She is the author or coauthor of two articles in peer-reviewed professional publications and four posters presented at scientific meetings nationally.

Talal Hilal, M.D.

Dr. Talal Hilal, assistant professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.

After receiving his M.B., B.Ch. and B.A.O. from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Medical University of Bahrain, in 2012, Hilal completed an internal medicine internship and residency from 2013—16 at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, and a hematology/oncology fellowship from 2016-19 at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Scottsdale, Arizona, where he was chief fellow from 2018-19.

An active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology, Hilal has given 11 oral or poster presentations at scientific meetings nationally. The author or coauthor of 40 articles in peer-reviewed professional journals and 12 abstracts, his research interests include malignant hematology with a focus on lymphoproliferative disorders and chronic lymphocytic leukemia; and clinical trial design and biostatistics.

Hannah Pittman Hogg, M.S.N.

Hannah Pittman Hogg, a nursing instructor at Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte, North Carolina, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in nursing.

After receiving her B.S.N. in 2012 and her M.S.N. in 2015 at UMMC, Hogg joined the Central Piedmont Community College faculty as a clinical instructor before being promoted to nursing instructor the following year. She has served as a patient care technician from 2011-12 and as a general pediatrics registered nurse from 2012-15 at the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children at UMMC and as a registered nurse from 2015-16 at Atrium Health, Levine Children’s Specialty Center, Charlotte, North Carolina.
