Gastroenterologist, oral, maxillofacial resident join UMMC faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Rohan D. Jagtap, B.D.S.

Dr. Rohan D. Jagtap, recently an oral and maxillofacial radiology resident at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, Gainesville, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of dentistry and director of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology in the Department of Care Planning and Restorative Sciences.

After receiving his B.D.S. from MGV’s K.B.H. Dental College and Hospital, Nashik, India, in 2013, Jagtap served as an associate dentist at the Rutudent Dental Clinic and Research Center, Nashik. He received his Master’s in Healthcare Administration from Midwestern State University, Wichita Falls, Texas, in 2018 and had his oral and maxillofacial radiology residency at the UF College of Dentistry from 2017-19.

The author or coauthor of 12 articles in peer-reviewed publications and 11 scientific abstracts and presentations, Jagtap has given seven invited speaker presentations. He has editorial board and reviewer positions for seven high-impact peer-reviewed journals. He is an active member of the American Dental Association, the American Dental Education Association, the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and the Radiology Society of North America, among other professional organizations.

Shivi Sivananthi Siva, M.D.

Dr. Shivi Sivananthi Siva, a gastroenterologist and adjunct clinical faculty member at Mercy Hospital, North Iowa, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.

Siva began her medical studies studying pre-medicine from 1988-93 at North Colombo Medical College, Sri Lanka, and received her M.D. from the Ross University School of Medicine, Dominica, in 1997. She completed an internship in internal medicine from 1997-98 and a residency in internal medicine from 1999-2000 at the Medical College of Pennsylvania-Hahnemann University Hospitals, Philadelphia, followed by a gastroenterology fellowship from 2000-02 at Graduate Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

After brief clinical attachment at St. Georges University Hospital, London, and service as a registrar in general medicine/gastroenterology at St. George’s University Hospital  London, Siva was selected as a specialist registrar in the prestigious Gastroenterology Fellowship Program at London Deanery, the University of London, in general internal medicine and gastroenterology from 2004-13. Siva simultaneously completed a clinical research fellowship at the University of London and Cancer Research-UK.

Siva returned to the U.S. as a gastroenterology fellow and advanced fellow in inflammatory bowel disease at Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis, from 2013-14. She was chosen as an advanced fellow for Dr. Joseph Kirsner's Advanced Fellowship in Inflammatory Bowel Disease for one year at the University of Chicago.

Since 2015, Siva has served as a consultant gastroenterologist for Northampton General Hospital, United Kingdom, and as a gastroenterologist at Heartland QC, Moline, Illinois, and at Mercy Hospital. She has authored or co-authored seven abstracts, four articles in peer-reviewed journals and a book chapter in inflammatory bowel disease. Siva has presented her original research at national and international gastroenterology meetings and serves as a reviewer for peer-reviewed publications in gastroenterology and a delegate in the Quality Leadership Council’s practice workgroup at the American Gastroenterological Association.

Siva has organized annual educational seminars for patients with inflammatory bowel disease in partnership with the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. She is an active member of the American Medical Association, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.
