Our Donors: Giving TWOsday match makes for million-dollar day

The Campaign for Children’s of Mississippi gained more than $1 million on April 30 through the generosity of Mississippians and matching funds from a generous donor.

Agreeing to match gifts up to $250,000 given by that date, dubbed Giving TWOsday, the anonymous donor then increased the matching funds pledge to $500,000 later that day.

Dr. LouAnn Woodward, vice chancellor for health affairs, and her husband, Jon, made a $1,000 gift to reach the seven-figure total during a celebration at the District at Eastover.

Businesses throughout the District, joined the fundraising, from specials at Fine & Dandy, to donations made by shoppers, diners and merchants.

One of those donors was Brian Beckham, owner of Beckham Custom Jewelry Co.

“Giving back to the community is important to me, and I can’t think of a better cause than to make sure children have the best health care close to home,” Beckham said.

Launched in 2016, the campaign has raised more than $74 million to help complete the seven-story hospital expansion.
