Dr. Wondwosen Kassahun-Yimer, a recent postdoctoral fellow in biostatistics and bioinformatics at the National Institutes of Health, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of data science.

A researcher at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, Kassahun-Yimer earned his B.Sc. in statistics there in 1998 and his M.Sc. in statistics there in 2004. He served as a lecturer on the public health faculty of Jimma University, Ethiopia, from 2005-10. While an assistant professor of public health and medical sciences at Jimma University from 2011-14, Kassahun-Yimer received his Ph.D. in statistics from Hasselt University, Belgium. Kassahun-Yimar was promoted to associate professor of public health and medical sciences at Jimma University in 2014, and in 2015, he began his postdoctoral fellowship at the NIH.

The coauthor of 21 articles in peer-reviewed scientific publications and former editorial board member of the Ethiopian Journal of Health Sciences, Kassahun-Yimer has given two seminar presentations internationally. He is an active member of the American Statistical Association.
