SHRP, academic information instructors join UMMC faculty

The Medical Center is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Bevilyn Yvonne Perkins, M.S.

Bevilyn Perkins, a technologist in the Department of Surgical Pathology, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in the School of Health Related Professions.

Perkins has a B.S. in biology health science from Alcorn State University, a B.S. in cytotechnology from UMMC and an M.S. in combined science (biology/chemistry) from Mississippi College.

She was faculty staff in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Buffalo, New York's collaboration with the School of Health Related Professions at SUNY, Buffalo. She served as an adjunct instructor at both Tougaloo College and Hinds Community College.

Perkins is the recipient of the Mississippi Society of Cytopathology Award and the Outstanding Cytology Student Award.

 


 

Misti Renea Thornton, M.L.I.S.

Misti Renea Thornton, the archivist at Rowland Medical Library, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in Academic Information Services.

After receiving her B.B.A. magna cum laude from Belhaven University in 2012, Thornton earned her M.L.I.S. at the University of Southern Mississippi in 2016. She has worked in the Rowland Library for 13 years, starting as a library technician in 2004, a library associate in 2011 and an archivist II in 2014.

An active member of several professional organizations, including the Society of American Archivist, the American Library Association, the American Association for the History of Medicine and the Southern Chapter of the Medical Library Association, Thornton is a member of the Alpha Beta Gamma and the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Societies.
