Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming week at the Medical Center.

Wednesday, June 14

Physiologist to link autoimmunity, essential hypertension

Dr. Michael Ryan, professor of physiology and associate dean for student affairs in the School for Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences, will give the Physiology Seminar Series presentation, “Autoimmunity and its Link to Essential Hypertension,” from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Dermatologist to offer skin protection strategies

Dr. Kimberley Ward, associate professor of dermatology, will give the Everyday Wellness presentation, "Protecting Your Skin from the Sun," from 12:10-12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, in classroom R354 (upper amphitheatre).

Quanterix specialist to discuss biomarker detection tech

Dr. Jialu Liu, field applications specialist for Quanterix, will present “Ultra-sensitive Detection of Biomarkers with Single Molecule Array Technology” from noon-1 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, in classroom 3A.

LSU biomed expert to promote diet, energy balance

Dr. Corby K. Martin, associate professor at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Louisiana State University, will present “Quantitative Studies of Energy Balance: Implications for Dietary Interventions” at noon on Thursday, June 15, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

UAB psychatrist to talk ethical judgment, psychotherapy

Dr. Lee I. Ascherman, vice chair for education in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobiology and director of residency and chief of service in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, will give the Psychiatry Grand Rounds presentation, "The Developmental Origins of Ethical Judgment Applied to the Ethics of Psychotherapy and Supervision," at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 16, in room CW106 of the Classroom Wing.

Florida physiologist to cover hypoxia, stress, fetal brain

Dr. Charles E. Wood, professor and chair of physiology and functional genomics at the University of Florida College of Medicine, will present “Hypoxia, Stress and Fetal Brain Inflammation: What's the Microbiome Got to Do with It?” at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 19, in room CW106 of the Classroom Wing.

UT-Southwestern surgeon to talk endoscopic skull surgery

Dr. Samuel L. Barnett, associate professor of neurological surgery and co-director of the Comprehensive Skull Base Surgery Program at the UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, will present the 2017 Orlando J. Andy Lecture, “Skull Base Surgery in the Endoscopic Era,” from 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, in the Bank Plus Conference Center on the second-floor atrium mall at Methodist Rehabilitation Center.

Ceremony to honor UMMC retirees with 25 years of service

UMMC will host a ceremony to honor its retiring faculty and staff with 25 consecutive years or more of service to the institution ending July 1, 2016-June 30, 2017 at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 30, in the second-floor conference center of the Norman C. Nelson Student Union. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.
