Tuesday, Jan. 10
Emory anesthesiologist to talk stem cell therapy, stroke

Dr. Ling Wei, professor and John E. Steinhaus Endowed Chair at the Emory School of Medicine, will present “Combination Stem Cell Therapy for Stroke” from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, in room 4A.

LSU scientist to promote gene transfer, ALS study

Dr. Ronald Klein, associate professor of pharmacology, toxicology and neuroscience at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Shreveport, will present “CNS Gene Transfer for Studying ALS” from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).
All Medical Center faculty, staff and students are invited. The presentation is part of the Neurobiology and Anatomical Sciences Seminar Series.

Virginia professor to discuss kidney disease progression

Dr. Thu Le, University of Virginia Health System Harrison Distinguished Associate Professor of Medicine and chair of molecular physiology and biological physics, will present “Role of GSTM1Gene in Kidney Disease Progression: From Bedside to Bench and Back” from noon-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, in the Guyton Conference Room (room G451-04).

Dr. Marc E. Mitchell, professor of vascular surgery, will give the Department of Surgery Grand Rounds presentation, "Thoracic Vascular Trauma - Evaluation and Management," at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Dr. Jun Yoshioka, assistant professor of medicine and director of the Brigham Regenerative Medicine Center Confocal Core Facility at Harvard Medical School, Cambridge, Massachusetts, will present “The Emerging Role of Txnip in Cardiac Physiology and Pathology” from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Pastoral Services to host MLK prayer service

As part of the national observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, the Department of Pastoral Services will host a “Prayers of the People” from noon-12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, in the University Chapel.
Multicolored candles will be lit in celebration of and as an expression of humanity's unity in diversity. The ceremony is open to all faith traditions and denominations.
