AHA fellow joins preventive medicine faculty

The Medical Center is proud to announce the following addition to its faculty and leadership staff.
Yuichiro Yano, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Yuichiro Yano, recently an American Heart Association Strategically Focused Prevention Research Network fellow at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, has joined the UMMC faculty as an assistant professor of preventive medicine and The MIND Center.
Yano earned his M.D. in 2002 and his Ph.D. in hypertension and diabetes in 2014 at Jichi Medical University, Tochigi, Japan. He was an intern and resident in medicine at Miyazaki Prefectural Hospital, Japan, from 2002-04, an internist at Saigo/Nango/Kitaura National Health Insurance Hospital, Miyazaki, from 2004-10, an assistant professor in the Division of Community and Family Medicine at the University of Miyazaki from 2010-12, and a clinical associate in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Jichi Medical University School of Medicine from 2012-15.
An active member of the American Heart Association and a fellow of the American Society of Hypertension, Yano has been an investigator with the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) Study and the Framingham Heart Study since 2013. An editorial board member of and journal reviewer for numerous scientific publications, he has authored or coauthored more than 65 articles in peer-reviewed professional journals and has received several awards, including the American Heart Association Sandra A. Daugherty Award for Excellence in Cardiovascular Disease or Hypertension Epidemiology and Prevention and the American Society of Hypertension Young Scholar Award. He has given five invited presentations internationally.
His research interests include hypertension and the brain. Yano also will engage in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study and in the Jackson Heart Study.
