Radiation oncologist joins UMMC faculty

Krishna C. Vallabhaneni, Ph.D.

Dr. Krishna C. Vallabhaneni, a postdoctoral research fellow at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in radiation oncology.
Vallabhaneni has a master's degree in biochemistry and biotechnology from Sri Ramachandra University, India. Following his research training in cancer biology at the National Center for Biological Sciences, India, Vallabhaneni received an international fellowship for the “Molecular Medicine” Ph.D. program at Hannover Medical School, Germany, where he earned his Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology in June 2012. He has been a postdoctoral research fellow in Dr. Radhika Pochampally's lab at the UMMC Cancer Institute since December 2012.
Vallabhaneni has more than eight years of research experience in stem cell biology. He is an author or coauthor of 13 articles in peer-reviewed scientific publications and more than 20 abstracts, and he is a peer reviewer for seven journals.
Vallabhaneni has been the recipient of nationally and internationally recognized prizes and awards for excellence in the field of stem cell and cancer research. He has received the 2016 Trustmark postdoctoral publication award, the MSC2013 travel grant award to Ohio, the Young investigator Travel Scholarship to Cambridge, United Kingdom, and the HBRS travel grant to Hamburg, Germany.
His research interests include the role of extracellular vesicles from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in breast cancer progression and metastasis.
