Fellow, residents join medicine, peds faculty

The Medical Center is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.
John Clark Henegan Jr., M.D.
Henegan
Dr. Clark Henegan Jr., recently chief fellow of the Hematology and Oncology Program at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.
An honors scholar at the Sally McDonnell-Barksdale Honors College, Henegan received his BS in chemical engineering summa cum laude from the University of Mississippi in 2002 before earning his M.D. at UMMC in 2008. He then began postgraduate training in internal medicine and medical genetics at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, where he was chief resident of the medical genetics program from 2011-12. He then had a hematology and oncology fellowship at UMMC, where he served as chief fellow of hematology and oncology from 2015-16.
Department of Medicine Fellow of the Year for three consecutive years at UMMC, Henegan is the author of 12 publications and abstracts. His research interests include heritable genitourinary malignancies and improving cancer outcomes.
Jasmine T. Kency, M.D.

Dr. Jasmine T. Kency, recently pediatric chief resident in the Department of Pediatrics at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.
After receiving her BA in psychology summa cum laude from Spelman College, Atlanta, Georgia, in 2007, Kency earned her M.D. in 2011 at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, Mobile. She then had an internship and residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at UMMC from 2011-15 and was pediatric chief resident from 2015-16.
A 2014 Outstanding Resident Teacher in Pediatrics, Kency has served on numerous committees at the Medical Center. She is an active member of the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association.
Jessie Lavender, M.D.
Lavender
Dr. Jessie Lavender, a recent internal medicine resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in medicine.
After receiving her BS in chemistry magna cum laude from Mississippi College in 2007, Lavender earned her M.D. at UMMC in 2012. She had a yearlong Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency before returning to the Medical Center for postgraduate training in internal medicine.
A volunteer at the Jackson Free Clinic and the Compassion Care Clinic, Lavender's interest is in primary care.
Susan Elizabeth McKey, M.D.
McKey
Dr. Susan Elizabeth McKey, a recent pediatric resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics.
After receiving her BS in microbiology magna cum laude from Mississippi State University in 2007, she served as a researcher in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at UMMC for two years before entering medical school in 2009. She earned her M.D. at UMMC in 2013, and completed her pediatric residency here from 2013-16.
The coauthor of three articles in peer-reviewed professional publications and two poster presentations, McKey is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
