Residents join pediatrics, medicine faculty

The Medical Center is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.
Mary Morgan McLeod, M.D.
Dr. Mary Morgan McLeod, a recent internal medicine and pediatrics resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics.
After receiving her BA in biology from the University of Mississippi in 2007, McLeod earned her M.D. in 2012 at UMMC , where she had an internship and residency in internal medicine and pediatrics.
A 2015-16 member of the Resident's Council and a 2011 Gold Humanism Honor Society inductee, McLeod is the 2016 recipient of the resident teaching award for pediatrics. She is an active member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Minal Patel, M.B.B.S.

Dr. Minal Patel, a recent pediatrics resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics.
Patel earned her M.B.B.S. at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Medical College, Rajkot, Gujarat, India in 2005 and had a year of internship training there before moving to the U.S. She had observerships at East Michigan Family Care and at Cinnaminson Primary and Walk-in Care, New Jersey, and externships at Global Health Care in Illinois and at Pediatric Clinic at Niles, Illnois, from 2009-11. In 2013 she came to UMMC to begin her pediatrics residency.
An active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association, Patel's research interests include sex determination and differentiation in patients with 45, X/46, XY mosaicism and hospital length-of-stay for bronchiolitis patients.
Jessica Perkins, M.D.

Dr. Jessica Perkins, a recent pediatric resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics.
After receiving her BS in biological science magna cum laude from Mississippi State University in 2009, Perkins earned her M.D. in 2013 at UMMC, where she had pediatric residency training.
The coauthor of one book chapter in a peer-reviewed professional publication, Perkins has given four invited presentations. She is the August 2013 recipient of the UMMC nursing staff's “U Matter” Award.
Ryan Cory Perkins, M.D.

Dr. Ryan Cory Perkins, a recent internal medicine-pediatrics resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in medicine.
After receiving his honors BA in biochemistry magna cum laude from the University of Mississippi in 2008, Perkins earned his M.D. at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Shreveport, in 2012. He then completed an internal medicine-pediatrics internship and residency at UMMC from 2012-16.
The coauthor of four articles in peer-reviewed professional publications, four abstracts and two quality-improvement projects, Perkins has a particular interest in Cystic Fibrosis. He is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Physicians. He serves as a chief resident in internal medicine.
