University of Mississippi Medical Center Statement on the Mississippi State Flag

The UMMC administration discontinued flying the state flag on campus recently.  Knowing that this decision would eventually become public, our desire nonetheless was to make this change in a low-key manner that did not add to the divisiveness that surrounds this issue.  Our mission of service is founded on respect for the dignity of all, and flying a flag that may be perceived as unwelcoming outside our front door is inconsistent with our aspiration to build a healthier Mississippi.
