Medical Center faculty and staff often are recognized regionally, nationally and internationally for their academic or medical achievements. These accolades elevate the UMMC brand among health science centers worldwide.
Emergency Medicine chair receives top quality award
Dr. Alan Jones, right, professor and chair of emergency medicine, receives Quality Administration’s Q Award from Dr. Peter Arnold, chief of staff, during a recent ceremony.
Presented quarterly, the Q Award is given to a Medical Center physician who promotes quality and improves patient safety.
According to an emergency medicine professor who nominated Jones, the EM chair is “consistently looking for ways to improve quality, safety and comfort of patients and tries to make sure each patient’s concern is addressed.”
“He (Jones) has personally met with the individual department chairs regarding ED patient flow processes,” the nomination form states. “He is engaged with the advanced practice providers in EM to ensure faculty involvement that promotes collaboration and patient safety.”
Jones was also cited for leading the Medical Center’s Diversion Task Force.
“He has led the hospital’s response to Ebola concerns and has established processes and methodology where none existed prior to this becoming an American concern. . . He has been pivotal in ensuring Telehealth processes to help ensure quality care around the state.”
