UMass pulmonary, critical care fellow, speech-language pathologist join UMMC faculty

The Medical Center is proud to announce the following addition to its faculty and leadership staff:
Avani Mehta, M.D.
Mehta
Dr. Avani Mehta, a recent graduate of the UMass Memorial Medical Center Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.
After receiving the combined baccalaureate degree and M.D. from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 2008, Mehta completed an internal medicine internship and residency from 2008-11 and a pulmonary and critical care fellowship from 2011-14 at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester.
The author or coauthor of three articles in peer-reviewed professional publications, Mehta has given two presentations at national medical organizational meetings. Mehta's research interests have included a diagnostic yield analysis for a new guiding catheter in electromagnetic navigation and a meta-analysis looking at bronchiectasis specimen data.
Mallory Upchurch, M.S.
Mallory Upchurch, a speech-language pathologist, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in otolaryngology and communicative sciences.
Upchurch earned her B.S. in communication sciences and disorders in 2012 and her M.S. in communication sciences and disorders in 2014 at the University of Mississippi. Since 2014, she has provided therapy for children with various communication disorders in the pediatric outpatient clinic at Laskin Therapy Group in Ridgeland.
Her interests include pediatric swallowing, feeding and providing rehab services.
