It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Neurology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). UMMC is Mississippi's only academic medical center.

Included on a 164-acre campus in Jackson are the professional schools of medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, health related professions, and graduate studies in the health sciences. Our 700+ bed hospital complex includes an adult hospital, a children's hospital, a hospital for women, and an intensive-care hospital. Also on-site are a pavilion for outpatient services, a rehabilitation hospital, and the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery VA Medical Center. Additional outpatient clinics are located nearby at the Jackson Medical Mall and at our Grants Ferry location in Flowood, MS.

The Department of Neurology offers undergraduate and graduate medical education, provides an extensive variety of patient care service, and conducts basic, clinical and translational research. Our investigative work has received funding from the NIH, NSF, HRSA, non-profit foundations, industry, and private philanthropy. Our faculty is comprised of subspecialty board-certified experts in stroke/vascular neurology, neurocritical care, epilepsy, clinical neurophysiology, neuromuscular medicine, geriatric neurology, headache, sleep disorders, neuropsychology, Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, neuro-oncology, multiple sclerosis, neurorehabilitation, and movement disorders.  In the past 5 years, we have doubled the size of our faculty and have added new certified training programs in neurocritical care, neuromuscular medicine, and vascular neurology.  Our department principles are excellence, civility and respect for one another.

Neurology students, residents and fellows enjoy exposure to acute and tertiary neurological problems in a variety of patient populations and training venues. They benefit from state-of-the-art hospital facilities, the only NAEC Level 4 epilepsy center in Mississippi, extensive electrodiagnostic facilities, a JCAHO-certified stroke center, superb neuroradiology support, and a collegial environment. Unique opportunities for training and research include neuroscience ICU care, telestroke with outlying rural hospitals, neuroimaging studies of brain aging and dementia, and clinical trials of new therapies in stroke, epilepsy and neuro-oncology. Our departmental five-year strategic plan is accessible through the link below.

I hope you enjoy exploring our website, and we welcome your contacts via telephone, email or in person.
