Biography: Julie Schumacher, Ph.D., Professor and Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, is a licensed clinical psychologist who practices cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. Dr. Schumacher, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Stanford University had her B.A. in psychology conferred with distinction, went on to receive her M.A. in psychology and Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Stony Brook University, State University of New York, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University at Buffalo’s Research Institute on Addictions. Dr. Schumacher is actively involved in clinical and educational research with primary interests in the areas of harmful drug and alcohol use, trauma and violence, motivational interviewing, and dissemination and implementation of evidence based practices. As Vice Chair for Education, Dr. Schumacher oversees all of the educational and training activities housed within the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior.
