Specialties: Children's Genetics

Gender: Female

Biography: Healthcare has been an interest since I entered college. Nursing school interests led me quickly to pediatrics and newborn care and sick infants. I was fortunate to train under early leaders in newborn intensive care. As I was discerning my career path, I spent time at both University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC)and University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB).
Ultimately, I came back to UMMC, where I was able to be mentored in the developing field of sleep disorders medicine and also to pursue the pre-medical course requisites for medical school.
Pediatrics was a natural choice for residency, given my background in nursing. This training, along with my desire to contribute to my home state and the underserved children and families, has informed my career path.
I have been fortunate to be part of UMMC's triple mission of service, education and research for all these years.

My Approach to Healthcare

The child and the family is a single unit and therefore, we practice family-centered care. This is a basic tenet in general pediatrics and its' many specialties.
It is vital to form a positive relationship with the parents/caregivers and to make decisions jointly.
In our division, our approach is an intensive outpatient review and care management model. Developmental, nutrition, and social work is a basic part of our framework of evaluation and treatment.
Holistic care-physical, emotional, mental health, along with social and spiritual-of the child and family is optimal.
