Biography: Dr. Hartmut Uschmann is from Magdeburg, Germany. He finished high school and then enrolled in medical school after completing mandatory military service. He came to the US as an exchange student in ’93 and again in ’94. During that time period, he met his wife and married in March of 1995. Shortly after, he returned to Germany to graduate from Medical School, then returned to the US.
After moving to Jackson, MS, he worked as a volunteer in the department of Anesthesia in ’96. He became a research assistant with the department of Neurology in 07/96 through 06/98. He was admitted into residency in 07/98 and completed it in 06/02. Completed a Neurocritical Care fellowship of one-year duration 02/03. Concurrently, he became assistant residency program director.
He became an instructor in 07/02 and served as neurology staff since then. He became Assistant and then Associate professor in ’06 and ’10. He retained a special interest in stroke and was able to establish our six-bed stroke unit in 2008.
He is serving as director of the NSICU, vice chairman of the department, and residency/fellowship/clerkship director.
