Specialties: General Diagnostic Radiology, Body Imaging, Ultrasound, Emergency Radiology

Gender: Female

Biography: My academic career at UMMC began July 2016 serving as an ER radiologist covering the Trauma center overnight and teaching the first-year radiology residents fundamentals of Radiology. I excelled at that position and was well known by the residents, ER and Radiology staff for my teaching and guidance during my overnight shifts.

In October of 2017, I was promoted Radiology Quality & Safety Officer, chairperson of the Quality & Safety Committee and shifted to the Body section of the department. Since that time, I have been actively engaged in various projects and committees in the department and UMMC. During my tenure as Radiology Quality & Safety Officer, I have accomplished integration of Radiology Critical Alerts/Veriphy system with Epic effectively tying radiology alerts to the patient's medical record, facilitating continuity of care and effective communication for the health care team and have overseen the CareSelect AI software integration thereby effective reducing non-scorable orders and low scoring orders to prepare for the January 2022 PAMA mandate. I have served as I-Care champion for the department for 4 years facilitating interdepartmental and institutional communication to solve complex issues that arise.

I am actively engaged in resident and student education and teaching including Medical Student teaching, US basics lab, OB Ultrasound lectures, Radiology Case Review lectures, and Peer Learning / M&M conference. For the radiology body section, I hold the title of Director of the Resident CT & MR Clinical Clerkship and an additional appointment to the Director of the Intern CT & MR Clinical Clerkship. With this designation I complete the monthly group evaluations of the residents and interns who circulate through the body rotation and direct their daily responsibilities.

Committees I have or am currently member include Chairman of Quality & Safety Committee, Chairman of Radiology IT Governance Committee, HPB & GI Tumor Board presenter and member, Risk Management Committee, Radiology Executive Quality Review Board, Radiology Executive Committee, Annual MRI Policy and Protocol Review Committee, Clinical Decision Support Utilization Review Committee, Emergency Medicine | Radiology Cooperative Committee, Joint EPOC /ECLOC Committee and several RCA Investigation Committees.

In August of 2020, I was promoted to IT officer for the department and chairperson for the IT governance committee and remain as an associate officer for Quality & Safety. A few IT projects in the works include PACS RFP, equipment upgrades and PS1 / Workflow RFP and are planning several additional projects to improve our IT structure and work environment for the department.

My Approach to Healthcare

Radiology is a service oriented subspeciality whether for patients or for our ordering providers. UMMC Radiology is at a unique position to provide high level subspeciality care to the metro area of Jackson, the Mississippi delta, the entire state of Mississippi and geographic regions in our bordering states, that cannot be found elsewhere in the state. Given the low socioeconomic status of majority the state of Mississippi, I feel this is our duty to give the best care possible to people who otherwise would not receive that level of care.

Patient’s needs and concerns take priority in healthcare and radiology, our priorities include:

Caring for any patient medical issues or emergencies that should arise during imaging exams while patients are in the Radiology department, radiologist are the supervising physician while the patient is in the department.

Timely and adequate communication of results including clarity and conciseness in radiology reports and expedient reporting of critical findings to ordering providers utilizing verbal (at the view-box and telephone notification) and electronic notification (Radiology Critical Alert System/PowerConnect Actionable) if verbal communication unsuccessful.

Report follow-up or incidental findings tracking and informational communication loop to ensure timely and continuity in care for patients and ordering providers.

Overseeing correct exam protocols and yearly revision of protocols to current standard of care according to national standards.

Active engagement in tumor board conferences for integrative excellence in cancer care for UMC patients.
