Biography: Born in Clarksdale, Mississippi, Dr. Graves attended Vanderbilt University for his undergraduate education and applied early admission to the University of Mississippi Medical School. After graduating medical school, he stayed at UMMC for his orthopedic surgery residency. He completed two fellowships elsewhere, but returned to UMMC in 2006 and joined the department. He was formerly Residency Program Director for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and was recently named Chair of the department in 2023. He is also the Hansjörg Wyss AO Medical Foundation Chair of Orthopaedic Trauma. He lectures nationally and internationally and has a primary clinical focus on complex fracture care and nonunions/malunions. His secondary focus is adult education.
My Approach to Healthcare
Trauma is a life altering event. As one of my colleagues says, we often see a patient on the worst day of his or her life. My goal is to try to bring some order to that chaos by providing patient-centered care which takes into account more than just the injuries.
